LOWVILLE, LEWIS COUNTY (AP) -- State police are accusing the former treasurer of a northern New York Pop Warner football organization with embezzling as much as $20,000 from the group.
Troopers arrested 44-year-old Lisa Staie Tuesday on a charge of third-degree larceny following a six-month investigation.
Staie allegedly stole about $20,000 from the Lowville Pop Warner Football Association between September 2001 and last May.
Staie was released without bail by Lowville Village Justice Christy Cole, and awaits action by the Lewis County grand jury.
Defense attorney Michael Young says Staie already has begun making restitution.
