SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll is pushing for big changes to Hancock International Airport, and Wednesday morning he presented his plan to area development leaders.
There are three parts to the project: renovating the airport terminal, which would come out of federally collected funds; creating an airport authority, which the mayor says would make Hancock more competitive; and redevelopment of airport concession stands, which the consessionaires would pay for.
Reception of the mayor's presentation from the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and from the Manufacturers' Association of Central New York was enthusiastic. Driscoll is still working with the Town of DeWitt and the East Syracuse-Minoa School District to get the proposed airport authority in place, and the Syracuse Common Council must approve all three phases of the restructuring plan.
