Stewart Hancock remembered as as "idea man"
The former longtime publisher of the Eagle Newspapers, Stewart Hancock has passed away at the age of 58. Hancock led the creation of the Eagle Newspapers in 1992. He is being remembered by former colleagues as an idea man who participated in the Central New York political and business community all of his life. Hancock was considered a champion of local, community news. He was also the son of Judge Stewart Hancock. In recent years he created his own public affairs company, which did work for the Northeast Biofuels plant in Fulton.
Richard Keene, president and CEO of Eagle Newspapers, said "Stew was a very intelligent, energetic and dynamic individual with an unrivaled knowledge of political spheres and the publishing world. He was a friend and a mentor and will be missed."
Stewart Hancock leaves behind a wife and five children.
