(AP) -- A senior lawmaker is calling for a criminal probe of a Georgia plant implicated in the national salmonella outbreak suspected in at least eight deaths.
An FDA inspection found that roaches, mold, and signs of a leaking roof were among 10 separate problem areas at the Peanut Corp. of America's plant in Blakely.
A government report says salmonella had been found previously at least 12 times in products made at the plant, but production lines were never cleaned up after internal tests indicated contamination.
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro says the company's actions "can only be described as reprehensible and criminal."
Meanwhile, Peanut Corp. expanded its recall to all peanut products produced at the plant since Jan. 1, 2007.
More than 500 people have gotten sick in the outbreak, which is continuing.
