DRYDEN, TOMPKINS COUNTY -- Students in the Dryden School District had an unscheduled day off because someone flattened the tires of all 28 of the district's buses. The vandalism was discovered at 5:00 am by transportation department workers. Buses are kept behind a locked fence at a facility at 56 East Main Street in the Village of Dryden.
Because of the number of tires and the time it would take to repair the problem, school was canceled for the day. Grades K-8 were already off from school today so staff could score the ELA tests. Dryden Police Chief Margaret Ryan said “It is unfortunate that someone who wanted a day off from school would go to the extent of damaging school property.”
Police are not saying what was done to the tires. Police are working on several leads and ask anyone with information to call 607-844-8119.
School officials say barring any weather related closings or delays, school will be open tomorrow.
