It's been nearly one year since Liverpool teenager Samantha Reynolds was killed in a drunk driving crash. Now, her mother says the family may soon be getting the justice they've been looking for.
The Reynolds family was heading to Walt Disney World in April 2008 when, police say, a drunk driver crashed into their van on a highway in South Carolina. Reynolds was killed and her stepmother was seriously injured in the crash. Police say Raphael Gonzalez Martinez is the man responsible. Now, officials in South Carolina are telling the Reynolds family that he'll plead guilty to four counts of driving under the influence and could be sentenced to up to 70 years in prison.
While Samantha's mother Tracy is glad to hear the news, she says she isn't sure any punishment could fit the crime and nothing will bring her daughter back. "I don't ever see justice in being able to kill somebody and living and normal life. Even if it is behind bars," Tracy Reynolds said.
Reynolds says her daughter's picture and story will be put on South Carolina highway billboards in an effort to show the consequences of drinking and driving.
