Dave Matthews Band to play at baseball stadium
The Dave Matthews Band, apparently, likes to play small baseball stadiums, and approached the Syracuse Chiefs last fall about staging a concert at Alliance Bank Stadium. It's a done deal: tickets are already available to fans on the band's 'Warehouse' site, and, they'll go on sale here on March 14th.
There will be roughly 20,000 seats (some on the field) and at $55 or $65 a seat, it's a lot of money coming in, with questions today on where the money will go.
John Simone, Chiefs General Manager, says the ballclub negotiated the deal, though the County Executive approved. He says there's been a push to use the stadium for more than the 72 scheduled ballgames. A spokesperson for Joanie Mahoney says there's a meeting tomorrow with the Chiefs, the County Attorney and others to iron out details.
It's no secret that the Chiefs want a round of renovations to the stadium, including a new scoreboard. Simone hopes that, by showing other uses, and by bringing in more revenues, that will happen.
As to whether he's going into the concert promoting business? 'Not me,' he laughs but, he says that, if the August 4th concert is a success, you can expect to see a couple such events at Alliance Bank Stadium annually.
