FULTON -- Oswego Health, the parent company of Oswego Hospital, will operate an urgent care center at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton when the hospital closes down this summer. Lee Memorial is slated to close on June 30.
In addition to the urgent care facility, Oswego Health plans to provide outpatient care services as well. The urgent care center will provide treatment for non-life threatening services. Those needing emergency care will have to travel to hospitals in Oswego or Syracuse.
Fulton residents like Deena Broadwell, say an urgent care center is no substitute for an emergency room. " I have a lot of little ones if I can't get them the help they need immediately there is a higher chance something could happen," Broadwell says.
Details of the deal are still be worked out. No word yet on whether any of the 200 current employees at Lee Memorial who are slated to lose their jobs will be hired to work in the new urgent care center.
