SYRACUSE -- Former Congressman Jim Walsh and his wife DeDe are being recognized for their 30-plus years of service to Central New York. A tribute was held in their honor at the Oncenter in Syracuse Saturday night. Walsh served as a congressman for 20 years before deciding not to seek re-election last year. As a congressman, he brought nearly one billion dollars in aid to Central New York. He says his successes would not have been possible without the support of his wife. He has a new job working for a law firm in Washington DC and says he's getting used to being out of politics.
"I believe in politics, I believe in government doing its part. I think the government is trying to do too much right now honestly. I think the American people will save the country the government won't," Walsh says.
Tickets to attend the event cost 100 dollars per person. All proceeds are benefiting Central Yew York's Francis house, which helps people with terminal illnesses.
