SYRACUSE -- The Vice President of the United States will be the Syracuse University commencement speaker in May.  Vice President Joe Biden is a 1968 graduate of the Syracuse University College of Law. His appearance was confirmed late this afternoon. The University Senate was meeting this afternoon to take a final vote on conferring an honorary degree on the Vice President. Biden has made several appearances on campus over the years as United States Senator. His son also attended the College of Law.

Vice President Biden has taught a seminar in constitutional law at Widener University College of Law since 1991.  He practiced law for four years before being elected as one of the youngest United States Senators in American history at the age of 29. He was a candidate for President in 2008, but ultimately accepted the position as running mate to Barack Obama. He has served as Vice President since President Obama's inauguration in January.
