Two US senators introduced a bill to prevent the government from imposing an additional tax on farmers across the state.
Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed taxing farmers $175 per dairy cow, in hopes of cutting down on methane gas emission.
Senator Chuck Schumer says the tax would pose serious consequences for farmers. Schumer says that, although the EPA hasn't taken the bill off the table yet, he and Senator Thume, of South Dakota, remain optimistic that the "cow tax" will not pass.
