SYRACUSE -- Syracuse’s "Say Yes to Education" program has received some good news. Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll announced Friday that he will be including $1.35 million in his city budget proposal to support the program.

The program allows Syracuse to be the first city in the nation to offer a kindergarden-to-high school compact. The compact offers the promise of a free college tuition to students who graduate from high school in Syracuse.

George Weiss, the founder of the “Say Yes” program, said Friday “Everybody has come together and put aside their differences, and the message I always tell people, given these economic times, given a lot of foundations and endowments are down, there’s a lot of cutbacks coming and there’s going to be hurting our kids. We can not afford to lose our generation of kids. I will tell you directly, that will not happen in Syracuse.”

"Say Yes" is funded with the assistance of Governor David Paterson and the New York State Legislature, Syracuse University, private foundations, and the local business community.
