SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll had some good news for city homeowners during his eighth and final State of the City address Wednesday night. For the third year in a row the mayor says the city will not raise property taxes. The mayor says he intends to use money from the city's reserve funds to help pay for services. Driscoll says this years budget is balanced and that has helped the city upgrade its credit rating.
The mayor also touted the "Say Yes to Education" program, which will pay college tuition for hundreds of students graduating from Syracuse City Schools.
The mayor pointed to the high number of construction projects underway in Syracuse. Projects like the $20 million dollar Jefferson Clinton Hotel in Armory Square and the $63 million dollar renovation of Hancock Airport. Driscoll says the influx of development projects has already brought hundreds of jobs to Syracuse and helped the city improve its credit rating.
Overall the mayor says last year alone there were more than two hundred million dollars in permits drawn on construction projects in the city.
