UTICA, ONEIDA COUNTY (AP) -- A Central New York man is going to state prison for three to nine years for embezzling $272,000 from a state bowling association and gambling it away at an Indian casino.
Stephen Donahue pleaded guilty in Oneida County Court in January to second-degree grand larceny.
The 54-year-old Weedsport resident managed the New York State Bowling Association for 23 years. He stole the money from 2006 to 2008 using an ATM card he hid from other bowling association officials.
Donahue had been offered a plea bargain if he paid back the association. But he told the judge he couldn't because he lost the money at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona.
