BINGHAMTON -- Binghamton's police chief says it appears the letter and other items Jiverly Wong reportedly sent to a Syracuse TV station are authentic.
The items have now been turned over to forensic specialists with the FBI. Investigators hope the letter will help provide some answers as to what might have driven Wong to shoot and kill 13 people and himself last Friday.
Dr. James Knoll, director of Forensic Psychiatry at Upstate Medical University, says Wong's letter indicates he was suffering from severe mental illness with delusions of persecution and, most likely, had been planning the attack for some time. " No one ever just snaps. It is a long process of the person harboring resentment, harboring anger and than having violent fantasies or revenge," Knoll says.
