SYRACUSE -- Hancock Airport was busy this morning, as many families took advantage of no school on Good Friday to board flights for Spring/Easter break vacations. The AAA says the most popular destinations are Orlando, Caribbean cruises, Mexico and the Mexican Riviera cruises, Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Hawaii and Hawaiian cruises.
Here's more from the AAA.
Many travelers are getting ready for out-of-town vacations as schools throughout Upstate New York will be closing for the week of April 13th. AAA has released the most popular travel destinations for Easter break, and warm weather destinations top the list:
Orlando, Fla.
Caribbean cruises
Mexico and Mexican Riviera cruises
Montego Bay, Jamaica
Hawaii and Hawaii cruises
Other popular destinations include: Punta Cana and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Las Vegas, Nev.; Tampa, Fla.; Aruba; and Nassau, Bahamas.
"Many are taking advantage of the Easter holiday and school break week to enjoy an out-of-town vacation with family and friends," said Tom Chestnut, President/CEO of AAA Western and Central New York. "For those still looking to get away, now is the opportune time to plan your next trip because there are great travel deals available."
Airports will see an increase in activity for Easter break, so AAA reminds travelers to:
Reconfirm flights 24-48 hours in advance and arrive at least two hours prior to departure.
Visit www.tsa.gov for the Transportation Security Administration's airport security rules.
Pack defensively for flight delays with portable entertainment, prescriptions, various electronics chargers and toiletries in a carry-on bag.
Know the limitations on your ticket and ask about amenities. The airline's contract of carriage does not require it to provide passengers with any additional services when flights are delayed or canceled due to bad weather which differs from situations where flights are delayed for mechanical/other reasons. During extended flight delays, airline staffs on the ground have the discretion to provide food and hotel vouchers, phone cards and snack boxes.
Take advantage of time saving services. Use your cell phone to program numbers for your airline, hotel, car rental company, and travel agent. Print out your boarding pass at home from the airline's Web site and use curbside check-in and ticket kiosks.
