BROCKPORT (AP) -- Campus police at a western New York college are investigating the apparent accidental death of a student who died in a fall inside a campus dormitory.

Officials at Brockport State College say 19-year-old Dix of Eden, near Buffalo, was found early Saturday morning in a stairway.

College officials say no one saw the accident and authorities were still trying to determine what caused Dix to fall. Campus police were already in the dorm when Dix was discovered and got to him quickly.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say the Monroe County medical examiner's office in Rochester will conduct an autopsy.

Dix was a 2007 graduate of Brocton High School in Chautauqua County.
