FULTON, OSWEGO COUNTY -- At 9:00 Monday morning, Oswego Health opened its first Urgent Care facility in Oswego County. This comes less than 24 hours after A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton closed its doors for good.
People coming to the Urgent Care facility - in the former Lee Hospital building - will get service seven days a week from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm. Urgent Care is for people suffering from minor injuries. You can go to Urgent Care if you might need stitches or have a sprain. If you think you might have a broken bone, that is when you should go to an emergency room which is open 24 hours a day.
Making the switch from a hospital to an Urgent Care facility literally happened over night, but health care officials know it might take longer for the public to adjust to these changes. In that time, however, they want the community to know medical coverage will not be compromised. If they need to dial 9-1-1 or use their life line buttons, an ambulance will come get them.
For the first few months, the center will be open for the listed hours, but if officials see that need is greater in this community, they will look into adding more people and hours.
