SYRACUSE -- Excitement is building in Downtown Syracuse, and now you have the chance to check out what it's like to live downtown. At a news conference Monday morning, local real estate developers gathered to discuss this year's Downtown Living Tour stops. The tour showcases both the renovation of historic buildings and new construction projects.
The Downtown Living Tour is in its third year, with ten stops along the way this time around. The buildings featured range anywhere from renovations to a brand new construction. It has been 15 years since Syracuse has had a brand new - from the ground up - living space constructed. A multi-million dollar Jefferson Clinton Commons project will be a mixed dwelling with residential properties and shops, including a law firm. When all is said and done, the Commons will be the newest part of a growing Armory Square.
The construction is expected to be completed in a few months, and half of the condominiums have already sold. The condos range anywhere in price from $200,000 to $400,000. Kevin Schwab, who works with the Metropolitan Development Association, says this shows that even though we are in a recession people want to live in Downtown Syracuse. He says it’s a fast growing area.
Organizers call the Downtown Living Tour a chance for interested people to see for themselves what urban living is like.
The third annual tour is scheduled for Saturday, May 16 from noon until 6:00 PM. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $12 dollars if purchased on the day of the event.
