WAMPSVILLE, MADISON COUNTY -- A teenager received his sentence Friday morning after his friend was killed in a joyride last year.
Michael Krowicki of Oneida pleaded guilty on March 13 to criminally negligent homicide in the death of his friend, 16-year-old Ryan Aldasch. Investigators say Krowicki was trying to ‘catch air’ on a hilly street and was found to have been driving nearly three times the 30 mile per hour speed limit when he lost control of his vehicle. The car, which police say was airborne for a distance of approximately 150 feet, slammed into a tree on Sayles Street in Oneida in May of 2008. The impact killed Aldasch and injured Krowicki and another teenage passenger.
Krowicki was sentenced to two months in jail, but will only serve forty days of that sentence due to good behavior. That jail term will begin on May 29. He will also serve five years of probation, have to perform 200 hours of community service, and repay the Aldasch family for Ryan’s funeral expenses.
The Aldasch family says that they have completely forgiven Krowicki for the accident.
