MINOA, ONONDAGA COUNTY -- There is new information in the case of a local teacher who is accused of robbing a bank last Thursday.
According to Minoa Village Court papers obtained by Action News, 28-year-old Mark S. Gurniak II, a Cicero-North Syracuse High School math teacher, made off with nearly $32,000 in cash.
The felony criminal complaint accuses Gurniak of walking into the Chase Bank on North Main Street in Minoa last week with a loaded shotgun. Police say he walked into the building, handed the teller a plastic bag and demanded $50,000. Investigators say the teller filled the bag with with $31,898.
Gurniak is charged with felony first degree robbery. He has been suspended with pay from his teaching job.
