Le Moyne College's head women's soccer coach has been arrested after police say he sent sexually explicit messages to a minor.
SYRACUSE -- Police say it started out as casual texting between 28-year-old James Riverso and the 16-year-old female student he coached last year. Baldwinsville Police Chief Michael LeFancheck says, "She's known him for a period of time. There had been some messages and they unfortunately began becoming unfortunately more inappropriate."
Police in Baldwinsville say that's when the girl, who's now 17, came to them. Officials say the two met at a youth soccer club Riverso coached in addition to his job at Le Moyne. They say the texts carried on for months. Riverso now faces 11 misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child and an additional 11 felony counts of disseminating indecent material to a minor.
Officials from Le Moyne College released a statement Monday afternoon stating: "We are aware of the alleged incident, and the college is cooperating fully with law enforcement on the investigation...he has been placed on administrative leave."
Riverso is due back in Baldwinsville court on June 10.
