PHOENIX, OSWEGO COUNTY -- Two teenage boys were arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly attempting to pull off a prank at Phoenix High School.
According to Phoenix Police Chief Rod Carr, police were called to the high school at approximately 1:50 AM Thursday in response to an alarm from a motion detector. Once at the school, an officer says he saw movement in the hallway and called for backup. Oswego County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived next, along with a New York State Trooper and his K-9.
Police say that the teens were inside the school wearing ski masks, apparently having entered the building through a window. The suspects are said to have been stacking chairs and desks. When police arrived, the suspects fled into a nearby wooded area.
One of the teens, 18-year-old Steven Breen of River Road in Phoenix, was found by the police dog hiding under some brush. Breen was bitten in the face by the dog, but police say he was not seriously injured.
Police say that the second teen, 17-year-old Brandon Colling of State Route 49 in Fulton, fled to a friend’s house where he called his mother. The mother then picked up her son and turned him into police.
Both Breen and Colling, who are seniors at the school, have been charged with third degree burglary and third degree criminal tampering. Police say that nothing was taken from the school, but there was some minor damage to school property. Breen and Colling were arraigned and released to the custody of their parents.
