SYRACUSE -- A step forward was taken Friday morning to develop clean energy technology companies here in Central New York.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, or NYSERDA, awarded $1.5 million to the Center for Clean Tech Entrepreneurship at the Syracuse Technology Garden. The money will be used to establish a clean energy business incubator program and expand the state's so-called "green collar" workforce.
"Upstate New York is a logical place to go because we have the infrastructure and intellectual capital, we have the dedicated work force, we have the academic resources and institutions that are essential to create the knowledge that underlies the development of these new clean, green energy companies" said Frank Murray, NYSERDA’s president and chief executive officer.
The clean technology center will work with entreprenuers to take their creative ideas and put them in touch with venture capitalists, with the hope of creating new jobs.
