GEDDES -- Hitting the million mark for this year's State Fair is a possibility, if attendance tops 100,000 on both remaining days.
And that's a possibility, with MC Hammer doing a free concert Sunday at Chevy Court, and the 48,000 plus who went to yesterday's SU game offered a deal for their Dome tickets.
Saturday was the biggest attendance day of this year's run: 107,213 people came to the New York State Fair; that's 21,355 more than last year. Overall, the Fair has drawn 799,463 people so far, up 60,684 from last year.
On Saturday, there were two attempts to break different world records. One of them looks like it was actually a success!
At the Cricket Communications tent, texting champion Ben Cook took his best shot at breaking the world record record for the fastest text sent. After more than thirty attempts, Cook clocked in at 40.9 seconds. He had to type the phrase "the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serraslmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality, they seldom attack a human."
The previous record holder texted that in 41.40 seconds in 2008.
Cook's time will be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records for approval next week.
As for an attempt to break a U.S. Postal Service record, they weren't so lucky. Visitors were asked to try and mail the most postcards from one location in a single day than ever before.
They fell short, though, mailing only 3,225 postcards. The last world record was set in July, when 4,976 postcards were mailed out of Massachusetts.
