Alternative routes around race courses

SYRACUSE -- Sunday, more than 3,000 participants, including runners from twenty-eight states and Canada will participate in the 17th annual Syracuse Festival of Races. The races will be in the area of  Manley Field House at Syracuse University. Participants in the Festival of Races range from area pre-school children to national-class athletes, as old as 91 competing in the USA Masters 5 km Championship.

To ensure the safety of race participants, Syracuse Police will close the courses to vehicle traffic. Drivers who use E. Colvin St. (between Comstock Ave. and Nottingham Rd.), Meadowbrook Dr. (between Lancaster Ave. and Euclid Ave.), Lancaster Ave. (south of Broad St.), or Buckingham Ave. (south of Broad Street) are encouraged to plan alternate routes during the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. that morning.

East-side motorists should avoid the race course by using Comstock Ave. as a north-south route, and Euclid Ave. as an east-west route. Drivers can also use Crawford Ave. (one block east of Meadowbrook Dr.) to travel between Euclid Ave. and Nottingham Rd. from 8:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.
