WEEDSPORT (AP) -- There's good news and bad news for motorists traveling on the Thruway this week.

The good news is that a stretch of Interstate 90 near Syracuse has reopened after being closed for reconstruction.

A 5-mile segment of the eastbound lanes between Exit 40 and Exit 39 -- just west of Syracuse -- reopened Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m.

The eastbound lanes had been closed and the traffic shifted to the westbound lanes as part of a $128 million reconstruction project on 15 miles of Thruway west of Syracuse. Both westbound lanes will be returned to their normal configuration by next Tuesday.

The project is scheduled to resume in mid-March.

The bad news is that a section of Thruway in the Albany area will have lane closures today through Friday as crews conduct drainage work.

Officials say the closures will occur along a stretch of the northbound and southbound lanes on Interstate 87 just south of Exit 23.
