BALDWINSVILLE -- Every day for Becky Bender is a challenge. The Baldwinsville girl struggles daily to recover from a traumatic brain injury. Now her family is trying to help her down that difficult path.
Bender nearly died when the car she was a passenger in went over an overpass in New Orleans last June. Bender's mother, Tammy Otts, fought to have her daughter brought back home. Now that Bender is home doctors say she faces a long difficult recovery.
Despite the odds Bender is determined to get better and has already made remarkable progress. "There is more of her there," Tammy says. "She's more aware of her surroundings and her feelings. She has feelings now," she says.
To help pay for Becky's care, Tammy and her husband held a fundraiser last month. That fundraiser raised $7,000 dollars, but Becky's care is going to cost a lot more than that.
