SYRACUSE -- The Nottingham High School drama club is hard at work for its upcoming production of “Stage Door”, which will hit the high school auditorium stage from November 20-22. But this is no run of the mill play - the Nottingham students rightfully take extra pride in the fact that all production work is done by students, which is rather unique to Nottingham.
Many schools hire out professionals for one aspect or another of a production, but at Nottingham every minute detail from lighting, costume design, set design is done by the students. It allows the students to take an extra level of pride in their productions while at the same time, allows them to gain real-life practical stage experience that many of the kids hope to use in future endeavors.
The play is about several young actresses living together in New York City trying to make it in a competitive business. They also try to woo the interest of a talent agent who is looking for young women to bring to his movie productions in Hollywood. Whether you know the story or not, chances are if you get a chance to make it to Nottingham any night from November 20 through the 22nd, you’ll see it in a completely different way, for the simple fact that these kids are going above and beyond to make their show completely done by “them”.
