ALBANY (AP) -- A new poll shows New Yorkers are worried about the state's growing deficit. They believe Gov. David Paterson when he says the state will run out of money in December. And they overwhelmingly blame the Legislature for inaction so far on the $3.2 billion gap.

The Marist College poll finds 70 percent of registered voters say lawmakers are responsible for failing to address the problem, while 21 percent blame Paterson.

After missing Paterson's target dates for action in September, last week and on Tuesday, lawmakers continue to negotiate with the governor Wednesday.

A majority of voters also disapprove of Paterson's overall handling of the fiscal crisis.

The poll questioned 805 registered voters on Thursday, Monday and Tuesday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 points.
