Family and friends say despite the time that's passed since Imani Jennings was found in her Fage Avenue apartment. That tragic day is still fresh in their minds, and that's why they gathered Saturday night to remember her. Her mother, Cheron Patterson, and her mother's 15-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Weakfall are both serving time in prison for the death. Weakfall is serving 15 years to life. Jennings' Grandfather, Lee Jennings Sr. says, "I am gonna pray for the both of them but it's still gonna be fresh in my mind."
Friends and family came together to remember the 16 month old girl. Her father, Lee Jennings came in from buffalo to pray for Jennings and everyone affected by her killing. More than a dozen gathered in all. Some members of the Jennings' family say after the trial was held, they feel the sentences were just, while others say they think more could have been done. "I'm still going to be angry. Am I gonna let it stop me from living? Am I going to hate them for life? No, because you're not supposed to. Lord says you're not supposed to hate anybody. But justice was served."
Even though it's been a year since her death, Imani's family says they are still raising money for a headstone for her gravesite. If you'd like more information on how to help, you can contact Rhonda Jameson at 396-0393.
