SYRACUSE -- Local retailers are gearing up for Black Friday.
The day after Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year and stores like Best Buy are stocking up. Best Buys Carousel Center store manager Steve Darling says the store is planning on having extra inventory and staff for the big day. " We open the doors at 5 in the morning but of course we will all be here well before that," he says.
Big retail stores aren't the only ones hoping to attract shoppers Black Friday. The Mr.Shop in Armory Square is offering a 20% discount on all of its clothes. John Masara says the Mr. Shop is hoping its high end clothes will help it attract customers looking for unique gifts they can't find anywhere else. " I think there is a growing market out there that doesn't want to shop at a mall anymore," Masara says.
Nationwide, close to 140 million Americans are expected to head out shopping this weekend and competition for shoppers is expected to be fierce. Best Buy is offering discount coupons again this year. Steve Darling says low prices are the key to attracting big crowds. "there's no question that price attracts customers. The customers, the customer service has to be fantastic but the price has to be there," he says.
