PREBLE -- Many areas in Central New York received their first significant snowfall of the season and for ski fans, it was a thing of beauty. With that in mind we stopped by two local ski resorts; Song Mountain and Toggenburg Mountain, to check out how close they are to opening, especially with near 60 degree temperatures earlier in the week.
"The real frustrating thing for me, because I'm an avid skier is I just wanna get out there and ski. I'm ready to open though, I really just want to get out there and get busy, but for the time being it's just let's deal with what we have" says Toggenburg rental manager Nick Mir.
Both resorts say that they are "on schedule" to opening at their usual time which is typically early to mid December. "We look to get going the first or second week in December. So our average looks to be right on schedule. Yeah, we're good to go. The snow guns are primed. And the crews are ready to crank it out as soon as temperatures get below 32" said Song Mountain owner Peter Harris.
Good news for ski fans, who have been waiting since February and March to get back out there. Remember, Syracuse is on the verge of breaking the city record for consecutive days in a row without at least one inch of snow falling, at 276 days.
