ROCHESTER (AP) -- Authorities say two Rochester police officers who were shot while responding to an emergency call at an apartment building are in stable condition.
Police spokesman LaRon Singletary says one of the wounded officers has had surgery after being shot three times while the other will undergo an operation for a leg wound.
Police say the officers were fired upon around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when they apparently interrupted a home invasion at an apartment building on Rochester's northwest side. Officials say one bullet struck one of the officers in his bulletproof vest. Police say it's unclear if the officers returned fire.
The officers names weren't being released Wednesday morning.
Singletary says police were waiting for daylight to resume a yard-by-yard search for at least one gunman.
