On Saturday night, there were a few cars driving around with just a dusting of snow on them, but nothing that would require us to break out that shovel by any stretch. Over at Home Depot, they think people are definitely holding out to buying shovels and snowblowers until they see those first hints of shovel-able snow.
Dave Hasse, Home Depot Associate, says, "I've been hearing (people say) lets wait because I've been looking outside and saying ok, it's never going to happen."
But when it does, they say they've got the supplies. At Home Depot, they're stocked to the rafters with ice melt, shovels, and snowblowers. Some folks say they actually have made preparations for the inevitable. Phil Holstein says, "I'm ready, although the deck furniture is still on the deck. That might go in tomorrow."
Other Central New Yorkers are still in denial and holding off buying the essentials.
Bob Murwaski says, "I'll ned to go out and get a shovel, salt, gloves, all the other supplies."
While they're running the normal sales push on the winter supplies, this year at Home Depot they're finding some people are more interested in something unexpected.
Hasse said, "Some of our grills left over from the summer that we'd normally pack away, and, maybe its because of the weather we're having now, we sold 3 grills today."
It was pretty quiet in the winter supplies aisle Saturday at Home Depot, but they did say during the day there was a lot of people in looking at the snowblowers. Once the snow starts flying, that's when they start getting people waiting in line to buy them. They say they're looking forward to that.
