NORTH SYRACUSE -- At the Taft Road Post Office, packages are coming in and just as many packages are going out. They have still got thousands of Christmas cards in the system too.
Last Monday was the busiest day of the year for envelopes but today is the busiest day of the year for packages.
Adding to the burden are the storms that shut down much of the northeast this past weekend.
Gail Weeks, the Syracuse Postmaster, told Action News, "we use commercial airlines to fly our mail so we have a lot of mail stuck at airports."
But, with four days to go until Christmas, and an experienced staff that's used to the holiday rush, the Syracuse Postmaster said the weather won't stop last minute packages.
So, even though this is the busiest package day of the year, it's also business as usual..or almost usual. After all there are a lot of packages.
Gail Weeks added, "The major thing is we don't panic. We just take one day at a time and get it done."
Priority mail packages mailed today and Express mail packages sent tomorrow should also make it in time for Christmas.
