SALINA, ONONDAGA COUNTY -- The Liverpool Fire Department is investigating a fire in the Town of Salina, which forced a woman out of her home and left two firefighters with smoke inhalation.
The fire was at a house on Gillis Avenue and began around 11:55 a.m. The fire is still under investigation, though it appears as if it may have been sparked by a space heater in the basement, Liverpool Fire Chief Gary Vincitore said.
"When we pulled up, we had an obvious house fire coming from the rear of the house," Vincitore said. "There was quite a lot of smoke in the area."
The fire was mainly confined to the basement of the house, though the fire spread from the basement to the walls. Crews had the fire knocked down quickly.
The woman, who lives alone, escaped the fire and was uninjured. Two firefighters were injured in the blaze, but both refused medical treatment for smoke inhalation.
"Nothing serious," Vincitore said. "They'll be back in fighting fires in a few minutes."
