SYRACUSE -- More than 12,000 fans filed into Carrier Dome Wednesday night to catch a glimpse of some professional wrestling action. World Wrestling Entertainment, or "WWE", rolled into town for an evening matchup.
Fans came from across the Northeast for the show, which featured WWE staples such as John Cena, Batista and Sheamus. "I definitely love wrestling, it doesn't matter how far it is," Ithaca resident Chris Jackson said. Other fans came from Buffalo and as far as Hartford, Connecticut.
This is the first time WWE has put on a show in the Carrier Dome after previous affairs at the Onondaga County War Memorial, and is the last event of the current tour. As for the matches themselves, Tyler Stevens hoped to see a particular pair pitted against each other. Tickets to the show were a birthday gift for Stevens, who turned nine on Wednesday. "I want to see John Cena and Sheamus in a table match," says Tyler.
While some are there to see the violence, others are there solely for the entertainment. "It's fake, but I've trained before so I have a new respect for the wrestlers," Buffalo fan Heather Klein said. "It's a lot more work than just beating someone up."
Other disagree, saying the matches have more sport-value than entertainment. "Those are doubters," Chris Jackson said. "Why don't you get into the ring and you'll see the truth, man. It's real, very real."
