UTICA, ONEIDA CO. (AP) -- Utica's free lockout service is the latest casualty of tight municipal budgets.
Until last week, people locked out of their vehicles could call the city fire department for help. But Mayor David Roefaro told the Utica Observer-Dispatch yesterday that the roughly 700 calls for the service each year are too much given the city's money woes and wear and tear on its vehicles.
The service will now be available only for emergencies.
