Saturday Feast Day celebrated with Mass
January 23rd is the Feast Day for Mother Marianne Cope, the Syracuse-based nun who answered the call to tend to the leper colony in Hawaii. With Father Damien's canonization last October, there is encouragement in the Franciscan community that Blessed Marianne is also close to sainthood--several sisters from Syracuse attended the October ceremonies at the Vatican, and also met with Vatican officials to ensure the canonization documentation is current.
