WATERTOWN (AP) -- State police say a northern New York man picked the wrong vehicles to steal from.
Troopers were called to a hotel parking lot in Watertown early Wednesday morning after five vehicles had been broken into and items inside were stolen.
Troopers say two of the vehicles were from the New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit from Troop C based at Sidney. Police say the marked vehicles were in Watertown while participating in a local commercial vehicle enforcement detail.
Police later arrested 20-year-old Alexander Donchevich of Watertown and charged him with grand larceny and criminal mischief.
Troopers say they recovered computers, radar units and police clothing that were taken from the state police vehicles.
Donchevich is being held in the Jefferson County jail on $25,000 cash bail.
