AUBURN -- The O-I plant in Auburn is making changes. A company spokesperson says there is a plan to diversify the products made at the plant.
In addition to beer bottles, the company plans to produce food and spirits containers in Auburn. Right now, the plant is on an extended holiday shutdown in order to reduce inventory. The company says Thursday's decision does not change the timeline for a return to full production. The plant is expected to be completely back up and running in four to six months.
The company says it is taking advantage of the plant's efficiency and cost effectiveness, positioning the plant for the long term.
Employees will be notified directly when they should return to work.
