SYRACUSE (AP) -- Federal authorities say a fired Bristol-Myers Squibb employee in upstate New York has been charged with stealing trade secrets.
The U.S. attorney's office in Syracuse said Wednesday that 29-year-old Shalin Jhaveri is accused of plotting to launch his own pharmaceutical business in his native India in competition with the New York-based drugmaker.
The federal court in Syracuse said a defense attorney has not been assigned to Jhaveri, who was ordered held without bail.
Jhaveri has been employed as a technical operations associate since November 2007 and was fired Tuesday. If convicted, he could draw up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
