NEW YORK (AP) -- Bruce Springsteen wants his name off a lawsuit demanding licensing fees because a band at a Manhattan bar played his songs.

A statement on Springsteen's web site Thursday said he did not know about the lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court in Manhattan.

The statement said Springsteen was not told of the lawsuit and would not have agreed to be a plaintiff if he had been asked.

It said the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers brought the lawsuit against Connolly's Pub on West 45th Street.

It said Springsteen's representatives demanded the immediate removal of his name from the lawsuit after learning about it Thursday.

A man who answered the phone at Connolly's Thursday said there was no comment.
