Richard Kent wasn't sure if his gas pedal was sticking when he drove around in his 2009 Toyota Corolla. "I thought my foot was on the gas pedal and brake together but it did stick a couple times. It didn't race, I just moved my foot and it seemed to go away."
So Kent had it checked out when he took it to his Toyota dealer in East Syracuse for an oil change. On Thursday, the dealer got its first shipment of replacement parts to fix many of its recalled cars and S.U.V.s. "They told me they'd change my gas pedal problem for me. About an hour and fifteen minutes later with the oil change, I'll be all done. Nice, Quick, and easy," says Kent.
But Toyota Prius Hybrid owners like Erica Page are just beginning to worry. Company officials are looking at the brakes in 2010 Prius Hybrids after drivers complained the antilock brakes may not work. That's enough to bring Page to the shop. "I asked them what they were doing, had they heard anything. What I needed to do and they said that they're still checking into it. It may be an electrical thing. Not to worry about it. It's fine to drive."
Even with the recall of almost 10 Toyota models, these drivers say once fixed, they're ready to be back behind the wheel. Page says, "This is actually my first Toyota, I bought it a couple months ago. I've had a great experience with it so far. I fully trust the company."
