When Gary LaTray was released from prison in 2007 for a 3-million dollar armored car heist, he seemed ready to turn his life around. Brother Edward Falsey supervised LaTray while he was on parole, and off the streets. "Trying to help a lot of other people through recovery, or through supervising their community service," says Falsey.
For two years Latray worked at the Franciscan Ministries on North Salina Street doing simple grounds keeping and building maintenance. It wasn't until last spring Brother Falsey says he suspected LaTray fell back into drug abuse. Not long after that, he vanished completely. Falsey says if LaTray needed professional treatment, for the addictions, he could've helped. "He knew that." says Brother Falsey. "But he wrote me after that and said he couldn't tell me that that had happened."
LaTray is now one of the county's most wanted, and the FBI says he held up banks in four other states, including one in Ohio on New Years Eve. Sheriff Walsh says, "He's wanted for aggravated robberies, we know he will not go peacefully, there's every possibility he's armed." Brother Edward Falsey says, "He's hurt a lot of people. He's hurting himself. And the only other option is to die. Because that's the natural end of addiction."
Sheriff Walsh doesn't know if LaTray is in the area, but he isn't ruling it out. Walsh says if you see LaTray to call the police immediately.
