SYRACUSE (AP) -- Four former Penn Traffic supermarkets in three states will soon be closed under the new owner, Tops Friendly Markets.
P&C Foods supermarket in Hornell, N.Y. will close March 20. Two BiLo supermarkets in Pennsylvania - in Clarion and Blairsville - will close March 13 and a P&C store in Bradford, Vt. will close Feb. 28.
In making the announcement, Tops cited economic viability, current store conditions and the ability for the stores to compete in the marketplace.
Buffalo-based Tops last month paid more than $85 million for most of Penn Traffic's assets, including its 79 supermarkets.
The Syracuse-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from its creditors on Nov. 18, the third such filing in 10 years.
