UPDATE:Sunday 4 pm- The Great Appliance Swap Out was due to expire on Sunday, but NYSERDA announced the program has been extended. That means there is still time to buy that new energy efficient appliance you have been wanting. So far, the program has spurred great business for retailers with New Yorker’s applying for $7.1 million in rebates! NYSERDA says there is still $9.7 million in rebate money available and the program will continue until those funds run out. The rebates are good for energy efficient refrigerators, freezers, washers and dishwashers. For more information click here http://www.nyapplianceswapout.com
Sunday is the final day to take advantage of the New York State appliance rebate. Customers are out making their purchases before time runs out.Andy MacNaughton with Ra-Lin's said, "We've been busy. Our deliveries have been busy. Inventories are low but we still have stuff to purchase. It's been very successful."
Chuck Nave is one of those people who's waited until almost the last minute.
Nave said, "It's probably my work schedule, our work schedule. Being able to coordinate going shopping, it seems every night one of us had something to do this week."
He's in the market for a new washer and, because of the rebate, he decided now is the time to buy
He said, "We were thinking about it four months ago. We heard this program was going to happen so I thought we should wait since we've been putting it off for four months."
While business has been steady at Ra-lin's, they have high hopes for the last day of the rebate program."
MacNaughton said, "I'm expecting a little bit of a mad rush tomorrow. That's always the way. The minute before the term papers due, you cram to get it done."
The appliance swap ends Sunday. There's less than $10 million left in the rebate fund.
"A lot of people have been thinking about doing this. It was enough to jog them into doing it with the immediate pay off from the rebate and long term savings from the energy efficiency from the products," said MacNaughton.
That potential to get the rebate and save money on his electric bill is a deal Chuck Nave won't miss.
"Obviously we want that. It makes sense for us too. We are very conscious that we save money on our electric bill. They keep going up and we try to be as efficient as we can," said Nave.
Ehile the appliance swap program ends Sunday, if there's rebate money left over the program could be extended or run again in the future.
