In both, snowmobilers slam into trees
GRIEG, NY -- Two separate snowmobile crashes early Sunday morning have killed one man and left two others in critical condition.
In Oneida County, Sheriffs Deputies say 63-year-old Albert Nichols, from Spenser, was not familiar with a trail in the Town of Florence, hit a tree and slammed into another tree. Rescuers had to trek in four miles from a paved road to reach him. Nichols was airlifted to University Hospital where he's critical with head, neck and internal injuries.
In Lewis County, in the Town of Grieg, State Police say two downstate men on separate snowmobiles missed a curve and slammed into trees. One, 59-year-old Frank Orobello from Ronkonkoma was killed instantly. 22-year-old Anthony Gallace from East Meadow was airlifted to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica with serious head injuries.
