HOMER, NY -- The Farm Workers Labor Bill would enforce mandatory overtime for farm workers and give them the option to form unions. But, it would drive up costs and put hundreds of small family farms across the state out of business. Hundreds of farmers from across the state travelled to Albany Monday to protest the proposed bill.
Advocates of the Farm Workers Labor Bill say change is long overdue in the states agriculture industry and that farm workers deserve to have the same basic rights as all workers.
But, opponents of the bill say there are other ways to accomplish those goals without crippling the states agriculture industry. Lower taxes on farmers would help.
